Over a dozen members of Congress including progressive champions Keith Ellison and Barbara Lee have spoken out in the last 48 hours to reiterate their opposition to any deal that includes the chained CPI. (Support our champions here)
And they're doing it for a very important reason: to send a message to President Obama and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi that they can't count on their votes to pass a bad deal.
Below is a list of members of Congress who signed a letter saying they will oppose a deal that included Social Security, we need them to make uneqivocal public statements that they will vote against a deal that includes benefit cuts, including the chained CPI.

Hi, my name is [NAME] and I'm a constituent who lives in [CITY].
I'm calling to ask Representative Welch to make a public statements committing to vote against any deficit deal that includes chained CPI or any other cuts to Social Security, Medicaid or Medicare benefits.
No deal is better than a bad deal. And any deal that includes benefit cuts (including any deal with chained CPI) is a bad deal.
So I hope Representative Welch joins Reps Barbara Lee, Rep. Keith Ellison, and many others in putting out a public statement committing to vote again any deal that cuts benefits and specifically singles chained CPI out as a benefit cut that will be opposed.
Close the call: Thank you for your time!
Some representatives have said they oppose benefit cuts without committing to vote against benefit cuts. Others have said they will vote against any deal with benefit cuts without acknowledging that chained CPI is a benefit cut.
Our allies on the Hill tell us either type of responses might be read as evasive signals that a member is open to falling in line and voting for a bad deal.
The first paves the way for the representative to "regretfully" vote for benefit cuts he or she personally "opposes" (but not enough to vote against). The second opens the door for a member of Congress to simply deny the reality of what he or she is doing.
That is why neither response is sufficient. Lip service isn't enough and we need a firm commitment to vote against any deal with benefit cuts, including chained CPI.
Not sure who represents you? Look it up here.
