Politicians Hold Social Security Checks Hostage While Defending Tax Cuts for Millionaires and Billionaires

(Washington, D.C.) — Today, President Obama said he cannot guarantee Social Security checks will go out Aug. 3rd if a debt-ceiling deal is not reached, even though Social Security has not contributed a penny to the federal deficit.
The following is a statement from Eric Kingson, co-chair of the Strengthen Social Security Campaign, in response to the possible delay of Social Security payments:

“Those depending on Social Security should not be held hostage by politicians more interested in providing tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires than in protecting seniors and people with disabilities. We need a deficit deal that protects our most vulnerable rather than coddles our most wealthy.”
